NewLogic Releases its Embeddable Wireless LAN 802.11g Modem IP Core
Continuing to set the trend in the Wireless LAN IP Market for Integrated WLAN Solutions - 802.11g Modem IP core from NewLogic now available and ready for delivery
Lustenau, Austria - December 3rd, 2003 – NewLogic Technologies, a leading supplier of intellectual property (IP) cores for wireless systems, today announced the availability of the 802.11g standard compliant DSSS/OFDM Modem of its WiLDTM family (Wireless LAN IP for LSI Designs) as RTL source code. The WiLD IP family consists of all the elements required for a fully integrated 802.11a/b/g single chip CMOS solution designed for high performance at the lowest cost.
The WiLD 802.11g Modem is compliant to the latest IEEE standard and complements the WiLD 802.11a and b Modem cores already released earlier to the market and tested in hardware. Together with the 802.11a/b/g MAC core, the respective software and the silicon-proven dualband CMOS radio, NewLogic provides to its customers all the necessary blocks to build flexible, application optimized, WLAN solutions.
NewLogic offers its modems either with an analog I/Q interface or with the digital HiSS interface. The HiSS interface is a low pin-count digital link between radio and baseband chips. The advantage of such a digital interface is that analog functions, like AD/DA converters are now all moved into the radio. Therefore the modem does not need to contain any mixed signal block, which improves yield, reduces test-effort and allows the design to be ported to different technologies without major efforts.
The WiLD 802.11g Modem can also be integrated with a customer MAC to create a MAC+Modem combo IC solution. Alternative system splits can be accommodated that combine the RF part with the digital modem while the MAC functions are performed by a host system.
I n the WiLD 802.11g Modem, DSSS/CCK and OFDM technologies – proven in WiLD 802.11a and b modems – are combined to achieve data rates of up to 54Mbps in the 2.4GHz frequency band. Extremely low implementation loss, achieved through superior channel estimation and tracking techniques, improves the range over existing solutions, meaning that WLAN users will receive the highest data rates over much larger distances.
True to its IP business model NewLogic specified and implemented its WiLD 802.11g Modem with reusability and integration in mind. To further ease the porting of its IP, the company also provides design services, making its unequalled system and design expertise available to its customers. Hardware prototyping platforms and a complete RTL test bench are available for IP customers.
“With the release of this proven 802.11g Modem core featuring excellent performance and implementation loss, NewLogic is now in the position to provide the whole range of IP blocks to customers to develop all possible combinations of integration while at the same time being able to add their own IP”, said Mana Coste, Sr. Marketing Manager of NewLogic. “In addition to providing clear, commented RTL source code with extensive documentation, NewLogic also provides a complete RTL test bench for easy SoC integration and comprehensive custom design services for the complex Radio-Modem interface. This provides significant time-to-market advantages as well as cost reduction for our customers.”
