February 23, 2005 -- Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that it has released software timing files for the fastest speed grade of its Virtexâ„¢-4 multi-platform FPGA devices. Designs implemented using the latest version of the Xilinx industry-leading ISE software tools and this new timing information clearly demonstrate that Virtex-4 FPGAs are the industry's fastest, out performing competing FPGAs in every performance category:

Xilinx has invested significant effort in developing a methodology that fairly and accurately measures logic performance on real customer designs. A good methodology must correctly constrain both the synthesis and place and route tools, evaluate the most important clock in the design (not only the slowest clock), use equivalent switch settings for each tool, and compare similar speed grades for each device. This accurate methodology shows a logic fabric performance advantage for Virtex-4 FPGAs of up to 70 percent, and on average 10 percent as compared to competing FPGAs.
About Xilinx Virtex-4 Platform FPGAs
Enabled by the revolutionary ASMBL (Advanced Silicon Modular Block) architecture and advanced 90nm triple-oxide technology, the award-winning Virtex-4 FPGA family delivers more options, higher performance and lower power than any other FPGA family available today. With more than 100 technical innovations, the Virtex-4 family consists of 17 devices and three domain-optimized platforms; Virtex-4 LX FPGAs optimized for logic-intensive designs, Virtex-4 SX FPGAs optimized for high-performance signal processing, and Virtex-4 FX FPGAs optimized for high-speed serial connectivity and embedded processing.
