Date: Tuesday, June 5 2001 - EBCP RoseRed is the latest Bluetooth Intellectual Property announced by Ericsson Technology Licensing. This solution is the newest addition in Ericsson Technology Licensing AB's continuous effort to maintain its position as the leader in Intellectual Property offering for Bluetooth wireless technology.
EBCP RoseRed is a baseband Intellectual Property used in making Bluetooth controller chips. Semiconductor companies and manufacturers of portable hand-held devices produce chips based on EBCP RoseRed.
"It is Ericsson which has taken the first step toward product optimization by designing a baseband IP geared strictly for mobile phones, PDA's and their corresponding accessories," said Maria Khorsand, president of Ericsson Technology Licensing AB. "We are ahead of the competition because no other company to date has a product like EBCP RoseRed, which is so clearly focused on maximizing functionality for this important product segment."
Features of the EBCP RoseRed IP are that it allows for high data rates while maintaining low power consumption and low processor loads. It is a baseband IP solution for use in System-on-Chip designs and is compatible with ASIC design flows. It is designed with a 3-slave variant, which has both voice and data capabilities. EBCP RoseRed was developed in conjunction with ARM, so it follows ARM's typical developmental climate.
"The EBCP RoseRed IP, which can be used in either a single or a dual-CPU environment, signals Ericsson's commitment in meeting the needs of the market and today's consumers," said Khorsand. "Mobile phones and accessories, for example, must contain a controller chip which is small and practical, yet offers all the functionality that the consumer needs. EBCP RoseRed was designed to accomplish this. This is really only one of many new developments which we have ongoing."
EBCP RoseRed, in a single-CPU environment, utilizes the Bluetooth Embedded Stack from Ericsson Technology Licensing AB. This single-CPU implementation is found in headsets, computer mice and remote controls. EBCP RoseRed also works in the dual-CPU environment with high-level protocols, such as the Bluetooth HOST Stack from Ericsson, which runs on a host CPU.

About Ericsson Technology Licensing
No company has been working longer or harder with Bluetooth wireless technology than Ericsson. We began our research back in 1994. We helped found the Bluetooth SIG and we were the first company to put Bluetooth consumer products into mass production. Now Ericsson Technology Licensing AB is a company formed with a mission to license Bluetooth intellectual property, and thus help all sorts of companies build Bluetooth connectivity into their products. We are already on our fourth generation of hardware designs and we are licensing these designs to several of the world's largest semiconductor companies.
