TU/e Launches Research Hub for Semiconductors and Photonics

TU/e Unites Leading Research Programs to Drive Innovation in Semiconductors and Quantum Technologies

Jun. 24, 2025 –

The Netherlands’ Technical University of Eindhoven (TU/e) is building a new research facility devoted to semiconductors, quantum, photonics, and the creation of future high-tech systems and chips.

The Eindhoven Hendrik Casimir Institute (EHCI), the High Tech Systems Centre (HTSC), and the Future Chips Flagship (FCF) are three programs that are combined into one new institute. These will be completely incorporated into the new institute, which will carry on, link, and expand their activities in line with the university’s overarching strategic direction.

The goal is directly in line with previous legislative proposals like the Draghi report and the European Chips Act. Both emphasise how crucial it is that Europe maintain authority over the creation, manufacturing, and use of critical technologies that will influence the ensuing decades.

Taking the lead in cutting-edge technologies

For semiconductors, advanced manufacturing machinery, and essential raw materials, Europe is currently highly dependent on non-European companies. As a result, the continent is susceptible to supply chain interruptions and geopolitical conflicts. In fields like artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, data storage, resource scarcity, and sustainable production, there is also a chance of losing control over ethical frameworks and technical norms. By establishing this new institute, TU/e is directly supporting Europe’s goal of continuing to lead the world in high-end technology...
