Ansys and SASTRA Deemed University Establish Center of Excellence for Advanced Space and Defense Technologies

Ansys, now part of Synopsys, together with SASTRA Deemed University, a leading Indian institution for engineering and science education, has launched the Ansys-SASTRA Center of Excellence (CoE) for Advanced Space and Defense Technologies at the SASTRA campus in Thanjavur. The center will combine Ansys’ simulation software with SASTRA’s high-performance computing resources to focus on critical areas such as structural and thermal analysis for aerospace systems, multiphysics simulations for space projects, mission reliability and system safety modeling, as well as propulsion, materials science, and electromagnetics for defense communication and radar technologies.
This partnership aims to prepare students, researchers, and faculty with hands-on experience using advanced engineering simulation tools, helping them contribute to key national programs like Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Gati Shakti. The CoE is designed to build a skilled workforce ready to meet the challenges of India’s growing space and defense sectors and support future technological advancements.
Mike Yeager, Ansys India and Japan area vice president, highlighted the need for engineers with both technical expertise and practical experience, stating that this collaboration will bridge the skills gap by providing access to world-class simulation platforms.
Prof S Vaidhyasubramaniam, Vice-Chancellor of SASTRA, emphasized the university’s commitment to aligning education and research with industry needs through this initiative, fostering innovation and strengthening India’s capabilities in space and defense technology.
