Canadian AI company Cohere opens Paris hub to expand EMEA operations

Canadian AI company Cohere has officially opened a new office in Paris, establishing the city as its central hub for fast-growing operations across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The move underscores both the importance of the EMEA region to Cohere's strategy and France's role as a global center for AI innovation.

For eeNews Europe readers, this expansion highlights how one of Canada’s leading AI firms is stepping up its presence in Europe, offering fresh opportunities for collaboration, sovereign AI adoption, and access to cutting-edge language models.

Expanding EMEA presence

By the end of the month, Cohere expects to have 20 employees in Paris, including business and public policy leads working closely with its global research, engineering, safety, and product teams. The company plans to double its headcount over the next year.

The new office will also anchor Cohere’s work with enterprises and governments, promoting what it calls “security-first enterprise AI technology” to unlock productivity and efficiency gains. Cohere’s French team has already been contributing to multilingual AI models and its flagship secure agentic AI platform, North.

“I’m proud that Cohere is further investing in France, an outstanding centre for AI innovation, and adding world class business leaders to build Paris as a hub for our growth across Europe,” said Aidan Gomez, CEO and co-founder of Cohere. “Cohere is extremely well-positioned to meet the growing demand of sovereign and secure AI from businesses and governments, and we’re excited to have boots on the ground to better collaborate with our new and existing partners and customers in the region. We’re looking forward to contributing to France’s AI ecosystem and drawing from the pool of incredible local talent here as we grow.”

Anne Bouverot, Special Envoy of France for Artificial Intelligence, added: “Cohere’s presence in Paris is yet another illustration of the strength of the AI ecosystem in France and Canada. We are delighted and honored that Cohere has chosen France as a launching pad for its business activities throughout Europe.”

Leadership hires and policy focus

Cohere is also strengthening its regional leadership team. Cohere will announce a new VP of EMEA at the end of September, who starts October 1 and drives commercial growth and partnerships. The company has also appointed Stéphanie Finck Piccin as Head of EMEA Public Policy. Piccin, who previously led policy initiatives for Salesforce, will help engage with policymakers, shape AI regulation, and scale Cohere’s sovereign AI solutions globally.

By reinforcing its EMEA presence with both a physical base and new leadership hires, Cohere is betting on a region that is ramping up its focus on sovereign AI, regulation, and enterprise adoption. For European enterprises exploring AI deployment with security and compliance in mind, Cohere’s Paris hub could mark a significant opportunity.
