Samsung Electronics gains momentum in foundry business with new contracts from AMD and Qualcomm
Samsung Electronics is seeing growing possibilities for performance improvement in its foundry (semiconductor contract manufacturing) business, where it has struggled for some time. Having succeeded in turning around the atmosphere by securing consecutive orders from global companies last year, it is expected to contribute to high-flying performance this year.
According to the industry on Jan. 8, Samsung Electronics is reportedly on the verge of securing orders for 2-nanometer (nm=one billionth of a meter) chips from AMD, and is also expected to join hands with Qualcomm, a U.S. mobile application processor (AP) company.
