FAMES pilot line inaugurated after delivering first validated semiconductor results

February 9, 2026 -

The FAMES Pilot Line has been formally inaugurated two years after becoming operational, with the facility already producing validated technical results across a range of advanced semiconductor technologies, including FD‑SOI, radio frequency components, embedded non‑volatile memory, 3D integration and power management ICs.

The results, achieved on a 300mm production line and presented at major international conferences, indicate that the initiative is functioning and offering an operational European semiconductor capability. FAMES is intended to support Europe’s technology sovereignty by accelerating the transition from research to industrial deployment.

The inauguration coincided with the opening of a cleanroom extension at CEA‑Leti’s site in Grenoble. Designed as an open‑access platform, the pilot line is available primarily to European startups, small and medium‑sized enterprises, industrial groups and research organisations, while remaining accessible to partners beyond Europe.

Its aim is to enable users to prototype, qualify and reduce the risks associated with advanced semiconductor technologies ahead of large‑scale manufacturing. The project is coordinated by the CEA.
