Korea to Invest 800.2 Billion Won in 10 Homegrown AI Chips

The Government Launches Semiconductor Manufacturing Support Task Force

The government will invest a total of 800.2 billion won, equivalent to about $528.88 million, to develop 10 domestically developed artificial intelligence chips tailored to the needs of customer companies.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy held the 2026 M.AX Alliance AI Semiconductor First-Half General Assembly at the EL Tower in Yangjae, Seoul on June 15, where participants discussed strategies to secure domestically developed AI chips.

Through the K-On-Device AI Semiconductor Technology Development Project, which has a total budget of 800.23 billion won, the ministry will support the development of 10 advanced domestically developed on-device AI chips tailored to the needs of customer companies and capable of immediate commercialization. The AI chips will be installed in finished products after production and validation testing.
