Nordic Semiconductor has announced a new route to faster deployment of satellite-enabled IoT devices, following the certification of LooUQ's MTC2-N9151 embedded modem for Skylo's Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) service.
The certification builds on Nordic's own Skylo-certified nRF9151 cellular IoT module and is intended to simplify the development and deployment of connected devices that require both cellular and satellite connectivity.
The nRF9151 combines an application microcontroller, LTE-M/NB-IoT or DECT NR+ modem, NB-NTN satellite connectivity and security functions within a single compact module. By supporting both terrestrial and satellite communications, the technology enables devices to maintain connectivity in locations where conventional cellular coverage is unavailable.
