Siemens and the Charter of Trust bring government and industry leaders together to advance collective cyber defense

October 29, 2026 -

  • Senior leaders from FBI, DHS, Department of Energy, ZScaler, BRG and more, discussed the role of public-private cooperation in countering next gen cyber threats.
  • The summit was co-organized by the Charter of Trust, a non-profit alliance of global companies committed to advancing cybersecurity and digital trust worldwide through collaboration, shared expertise and best practices.
  • Strengthening ties between the Charter of Trust and US government and identifying opportunities for cooperation were key outcomes of the event.

Washington, DC, USA -- On October 27th, Siemens and the Charter of Trust brought together leaders and experts from government, industry and the broader cybersecurity policy community for a high-level dialogue focused on protecting critical infrastructure from emerging cyber threats, and to explore how government agencies can coordinate and cooperate with industry partners to build resilience and effective deterrence.

"Protecting critical infrastructure is a shared responsibility between government agencies – state, local, and federal – and private companies, large and small. Capabilities and resources vary greatly from one to another, and every organization has a responsibility for the resilience and hardening of our supply chain and infrastructure,” said Shawn Griffin, Head of Cybersecurity, Siemens Digital Industries Software. “To effectively protect our critical infrastructure in today’s heightened threat landscape, it will require coordination of unique, targeted defense plans supported by collective resources."

Siemens is a founding member of the Charter of Trust and global leader in secure IT/OT solutions, with more than 1,300 cybersecurity experts worldwide ensuring the resilience of its products. Working with a network of thousands of manufacturers, distributors, integrators, and end-users, Siemens has a deep understanding of the cyber threat landscape – not just in the US, but around the world.

As industrial systems become increasingly digitized and interconnected, the vulnerability of operational technology has emerged as a paramount national security concern. Individual organizations face the growing challenge of defending against these systemic threats alone. This convening provided a venue to begin envisioning a coordinated defense framework that bridges the gap between federal regulatory and executive bodies and private sector technology providers.

A core theme of the event was the practical execution of collective defense strategies. Industry experts and government representatives discussed scaling joint operational capabilities, allowing for faster and more transparent data exchanges regarding emerging vulnerabilities. Through continuous threat monitoring and open channels of communication, vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure can be pinpointed and patched quickly and comprehensively. Cyber policy and regulations must be fully aligned with the practical realities of managing heavy machinery and manufacturing pipelines.

Dr. Sumit Chanda, COO of Atos Group Security and Co-Chair of the Charter of Trust, emphasized the alliance’s role in turning collaboration into concrete outcomes: “The Charter of Trust brings together diverse perspectives from government, industry and the wider cybersecurity community across sectors and borders. Our strength lies in turning this exchange into shared priorities and concrete initiatives that drive lasting progress in cybersecurity and digital trust.”

The event reflected the mission of the Charter of Trust, established at the 2018 Munich Security Conference, to build trust and strengthen global cyber resilience through collaboration. The alliance brings together leading global companies and engages with governments and the wider cybersecurity community to connect perspectives and expertise across sectors and borders, creating a safer, more resilient digital world.
