Industry experts are calling on domestic semiconductor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK hynix to strengthen their competitiveness in automotive semiconductors.
In a report titled “The Blind Spot of K-Memory: Automotive Semiconductors” released on May 26, the Korea Automotive Technology Institute said, “Domestic industry is particularly lagging behind foreign companies in market share only in automotive semiconductors, and the gap is widening.”
The report pointed out that domestic firms have failed to secure market dominance, capturing a market share of just 19.8 percent in the automotive memory semiconductor segment.
In 2024, U.S. chipmaker Micron held a 51.7 percent share of the automotive memory market, equivalent to $3.69 billion in revenue. Samsung Electronics ranked second with 16.8 percent and $1.2 billion, while SK hynix placed fifth with 3.0 percent and $211 million.
