Qualcomm is reportedly considering a Tenstorrent acquisition for up to 10 billion dollars: Jim Keller’s AI and RISC-V company in focus

An acquisition worth up to ten billion US dollars is not an impulsive purchase between two board meetings, even in the semiconductor industry. Qualcomm is reportedly negotiating exactly such a transaction: according to a report by The Information, picked up by Reuters on 15 June 2026, Qualcomm is examining the complete acquisition of AI chip developer Tenstorrent. The discussed purchase price is said to be between eight and ten billion US dollars. The talks are not yet concluded, the price may change, and the negotiations could still fail. Qualcomm and Tenstorrent initially declined to comment on the report to Reuters. Reuters was unable to independently verify the information.

The starting point is therefore clear: this is an acquisition report, not an announced deal. Strategically, the combination still makes sense. Qualcomm wants to expand its business beyond smartphones and is pushing into data centers with its own AI accelerators and server plans. Tenstorrent contributes AI accelerators, RISC-V cores, chiplet technology, compiler technology, and above all a team around the well-known processor designer Jim Keller.
