The global pure-play foundry market grew 29% year-over-year in the second quarter of this year, driven by surging demand for AI semiconductors. TSMC maintained its commanding lead with a 73% market share, while South Korea's Samsung Electronics held second place at 7%, widening the gap between the two companies to 66 percentage points. China's SMIC secured third place with record quarterly revenue, boosted by solid domestic demand and an influx of overseas orders. The top five players all maintained the same share rankings as the previous quarter. Counterpoint Research expects wafer average selling prices to continue rising and utilization rates to remain relatively high through the second half of the year.
