For a Malaysian company that only commenced operations in 2020, SkyeChip Bhd has moved quickly from designing its first memory-interface intellectual property (IP) to becoming one of the country's most visible homegrown IC design companies.
Its next challenge could be considerably more important: turning the IP it has created into products and recurring royalty streams.
That possibility is highlighted by Kenanga Research following SkyeChip's first-quarter FY2027 results on 17 Aug. Analyst Tan Woon Pin believes product and royalty revenue are "natural extensions" of SkyeChip's existing non-recurring engineering (NRE) and licensing businesses, although neither has yet been included in his earnings forecasts because the timing remains uncertain.
