Samsung Electronics is reportedly considering changing the role of a new semiconductor facility under construction in Giheung, South Korea, to support future demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) products used in artificial intelligence applications.
According to industry sources, the company is evaluating plans to convert its planned NRD-K Line 2 facility from a research and development line into a foundry production line. The move would enable Samsung to manufacture 2nm base, or logic, dies for next-generation HBM products, providing additional capacity as demand from AI-focused customers, including NVIDIA, is expected to increase.
