Andes Technology has slowed development of its Cuzco high-end RISC-V CPU IP and redirected engineering resources toward a rapidly expanding AI business, CTO Charlie Su told EE Times. According to EE Times, the company maintains that the project's ambition remains intact even though the technology may arrive in a different form and on a different timeline than originally planned.
Andes had spun out Condor to develop Cuzco after identifying a future market need for a high-end data center CPU built on RISC-V, but brought the technology back in-house earlier this year. Su indicated that the ecosystem must gradually move toward such hardware before a vendor can capture the opportunity, and that the AI portion of the business kept growing strongly as development proceeded.
