Peraso Releases PRS4000 60 GHz 802.11ad Baseband Chip
Baseband IC Allows Customers to Add Proprietary Value on Top of WiGig Standard
Toronto -- September 15th, 2014 -- Peraso Technologies Inc. announced today the immediate availability of the PRS4000 60 GHz 802.11ad baseband chip through its Baseband Early Access Program (BEAP). The highly integrated device includes an 802.11ad compliant MAC/PHY, a USB 3.0 system interface, and analog I/Q for seamless use with Peraso’s 60 GHz RF ICs. Importantly, Peraso supports a highly flexible software architecture, which allows customers to add proprietary functionality to the baseline operation of the device.
“Our development philosophy at Peraso is to ensure we have a flexible product platform from which we can address a variety of WiGig market opportunities” stated Brad Lynch, VP of Product Development at Peraso. “Further, our modular architecture ensures scalability, and our advanced data flow architecture ensures highly efficient power utilization, which is critical for mobile applications in particular.”
Peraso has been an active participant in the standardization of 60 GHz technology for several years, including membership in the Wireless Gigabit Alliance (WiGig) since 2010, as well as participation in IEEE 802.11ad. More recently, Peraso has been an active member of the WiFi 60 GHz task group, and has been an active participant in the WiFi 60 GHz interoperability program since October, 2013.
Peraso is targeting a variety of markets with its WiGig product offerings, including high speed mobile connectively, small cell backhaul, transportation and medical equipment.
“Peraso ICs provide key integration advantages while allowing InterDigital the ability to contribute our value-add software and algorithms”, said Jim Nolan EVP InterDigital Communications Inc. “We are excited to move development forward and begin demonstrating our 4G and 5G small cell backhaul solutions in the next few months.”
“Our relationship with InterDigital underscores our strategy to work with leaders in their respective markets to take advantage of Peraso’s software oriented MAC architecture”, stated Ron Glibbery, President and CEO of Peraso. “This creates a win-win situation in which Peraso manages standard compliance, and the customer can focus on creating incremental value in their particular market.
The PRS4000 is available immediately through the Peraso Baseband Early Access Program. Please contact Peraso for further information regarding the program.
