Inicore Grants Worldwide License of iniCAN Core to HP
Newark, California -- June 6, 2001-- Inicore, a full service system design house providing FPGA and ASIC solutions and semiconductor Intellectual Property (IP) cores, announced today that it has granted Hewlett Packard Company a worldwide license to its iniCAN core.
Controller Area Network (CAN) is a serial bus system with multi master capabilities and is especially suited for networking "intelligent" devices as well as sensors and actuators within a system or sub-system. Over the years the use for the CAN protocol found other applications in industries such as domestic appliances, industrial control, space and aviation besides the original car and truck environment. This is mainly due to its outstanding feature of high transmission reliability and its relative simplicity.
The iniCAN core is a full CAN 2.0B compliant bus controller. The core contains the complete data link layer, including the framer, transmit and receive control, error handling, error reporting, and frame synchronization. It is designed for system integration meaning that smart interfaces simplify system embedding. This simple interface shields the user from the complexity of the CAN protocol and makes it easy to integrate the core into the target system. The silicon proven core was first introduced in 1994 and since then has been used in various applications such as automotive, industrial control, space and aviation.
"HP is a global leader in the high-tech industry with an impressive portfolio and we are delighted of their selection for our product," said Hans J. Kuffer, Vice President Business Development from Inicore. "Our IP has been proven in many technologies and so is our ability to provide our customers with the best solutions".
"HP is pleased to have formed this worldwide license agreement with Inicore for the iniCAN core," said Erik Troelsen, procurement engineering manager, HP Imaging and Printing Systems. "This worldwide license provides HP with the opportunity to use Inicore's proven iniCAN technology across our different product offerings."
Inicore?s intellectual property (IP) cores are based on a structured design methodology and written in technology-neutral, synchronous VHDL. Each core comes with a testbench, synthesis script and user guide and is verified in a hardware test bed. Designed for ease-of-use and targeted for system-level integration, easyCORE™ is the vehicle to achieve the time-to-market goals.
