Xilinx and Tokyo Electron Device Offers V-by-One HS Video Interface Support for Using Spartan-6 FPGAs in Consumer Video Applications
Standards-compliant IP core leverages high-performance, low-cost capabilities of Spartan-6 FPGAs and Xilinx Targeted Design Platforms for consumer video applications
TOKYO, May 12, 2010 --Xilinx, Inc. (Nasdaq: XLNX), announced today its support for the emerging V-by-One(R) HS video interface standard with a solution from Xilinx Alliance Member Tokyo Electron Device that combines the low-cost Spartan(R)-6 FPGA family and a standards-compliant IP core. The solution builds on Xilinx's Targeted Design Platform strategy of offering integrated application-oriented solutions to enable the rapid development of consumer video products that are compliant with the next-generation high-speed interface specification developed by THine Electronics, Inc. (JASDAQ: 6769).
V-by-One HS is an open standard for allowing transmission of large amounts of video and control data to support the higher frame rates and the higher resolutions required by next-generation flat-panel displays. It enables high-speed serial data transfer technology capable of variable transfer speeds beyond 3Gbps, thus requiring far fewer channels for transferring data. V-by-One HS is being adopted by leading display manufacturers to replace previous generation (e.g. LVDS-based) solutions for high-end display products such as flat panel displays, multifunction printers, industrial camera systems, and other applications requiring fast data transfer.
The V-by-One HS solution includes a validated IP core, available from Tokyo Electron Device, with all the logic functionality required to implement the standard within a Spartan-6 FPGA. Combined with the low-cost benefits of the Spartan-6 family, the solution allows developers to reduce the time, cost and risk associated with bringing next-generation video products to market.

The kit is compatible with the latest video interface standards--including DisplayPort, HDMI, and LVDS--and, with the addition of the V-by-One HS evaluation IP core, is a powerful tool for improving the efficiency of cutting-edge video algorithms.
