Imagination announces the Meta LTP210 microcontroller IP core
Strengthens Meta CPU portfolio in deeply embedded 32-bit processors
Yokohama, Japan -- November 14, 2012 -- Imagination Technologies, a leading multimedia technologies company, today announces the smallest member of its successful Meta CPU IP core family.
While most Meta processors are multi-threaded to enable highly efficient embedded CPU-based applications, the LTP210 delivers the efficient Meta architecture in a single-threaded core, providing the smallest area Meta core available.
Meta LTP210 addresses complementary markets to the existing Meta CPU range, which is widely deployed in multimedia devices. Target markets for LTP210 include: sensors, control systems, connectivity, low energy usage, smart meters, crypto, and 8051 replacement.
Says Tony King-Smith, VP marketing, Imagination: “Meta is already well known as a compelling multi-threaded 32-bit CPU offering, combining excellent general purpose RISC processing with extremely efficient DSP capabilities ideal for audio and other embedded applications. The LTP210 expands our Meta CPU processor family into the deeply embedded microcontroller space, delivering a compelling solution in terms of silicon area, performance and code density.
“We’ve been using our low end Meta processors in many of our leading IP cores for video and communications for many years, with hundreds of millions of Meta single-threaded microcontrollers already shipped. With LTP210, we’re now bringing our smallest Meta processor to a wider audience. And thanks to the binary compatibility with our larger MTP and HTP Meta IP cores, we believe we now offer one of the most comprehensive embedded processor families in the market.”
The single-threaded Meta LTP210 features a large register set, enabling developers to minimise stack spilling, lowering power (by needing fewer external memory accesses) and higher performance. Meta LTP210 requires just 9uW per MHz in 40nmLP while delivering 1.23 DMIPS/MHz.
All Meta CPU IP cores share a common ISA (instruction set architecture), and are fully programmable in standard C or C++. Meta LTP210 is supported by Imagination’s full toolchain and Codescape debugger.
The Meta LTP210 IP core is available for licensing today. and is already in use with multiple lead partners.
