NoC Power-Management Advantages
Advanced SoCs include many subsystems that are portioned into power, frequencies, and voltage domains. These domains can include the ARM Cortex A15 and Cortex A7 CPUs, Mali GPU, and memory subsystem. The NoC providing communication among these subsystems plays an important role in the SoC’s power management, since the network interacts with all chip elements. This presentation addresses many of the techniques used to manage power consumption, including fine-grain and course-grain clock gating, voltage scaling, and power switching with auto-wakeup capabilities. Building these techniques into the NoC simplifies the task of implementing an efficient power-management strategy at the SoC level.
